quite-the-alarmist: I know the feeling. At the moment I'm studying like crazy for finals and finishing projects. I just went to our last rotary meeting this weekend, so that was really exciting! but it's the last time I'm going to see the inbounds :( The excitement is over now haha I'm just kind of moping around the house dragging my feet and sighing because I won't be around such a great group of kids anytime soon! and I still haven't gotten any new info either, so that sucks too! (sorry for replying so late btw!)

I found out my pre-departure orientation is June 3rd, so I’m looking forward to that at least. That’s really all I have to look forward to because I’m completely done with school. I’m soo ready now for summer and to start enjoying California until I leave. It’s getting closer and closer!

quite-the-alarmist: Hahah that happens to me too! I'll be walking down the street and I'll just think to myself "When I leave in 4 months I won't be seeing this street for a year!" I'm sure I'll get nervous when it's a couple of weeks before leaving, but right now I'm excited and also stressed because I have a lot to do before I leave!

It’s a weird feeling! Now that the excitement of everything being new is gone (I haven’t gotten any new info!) my attention span is consumed by philosophy papers and finals and the like. So annoying, I have 7 days of school left but 30 days of work!

quite-the-alarmist: When I have a lot of things on my mind I basically forget that I'm going to leave for a whole year so I'm not that nervous at the moment since I'm not thinking about it too much :p It sucks that after my year in Belgium I'll have to come back and finish another year in high school..you're really lucky school is almost over for you and you don't have to worry about the credits! I really just want to know what city I'm going to, that's what I'm really dying to know haha

Yeah during sophomore year I heard about it and wanted to leave for my junior year, but I’m glad I was (or tried to be) patient and waited until after I graduated. It’s a lot less stressful. Plus, I feel… ready. It feels like this is the right time because all of my friends are leaving for college. It’s in the back of my mind everyday but I don’t think about it enough to get nervous either. But sometimes I’ll be doing something normal, like going to In N Out or driving home and it’ll hit me that I’m leaving and I get all sad and appreciative of everything around me hahaha

quite-the-alarmist: For some reason I still can't grasp the fact that I'm going to Belgium! :p I'm so excited though!!!!!!!!! But I'm really impatient and not knowing my family or anything is killing me!

Same here, for everything!!!!! It still feels unreal that I’ll be going there, or that the plan even exists! I’ve been waiting for so long that for it to be THIS year…. it is extremely weird/exciting/nerve-wracking/crazy. I have 11 school days left until I’m done and then I graduate on the 16th, so it feels like a waste of time being in class and doing nothing when I could be enjoying time with people before I leave!

I REALLY want to know who my host family is already. Or at least where I’ll be….. so impatient

quite-the-alarmist: I'm sure you're not the only one! Belgium is a popular country for exchange. They have so many exchange students per year so there has to be more than one AFS exchange student going to the French speaking part of Belgium :)

I know, which is why I thought I’d have seen one already! Oh well, I’ll meet them in four months anyway hahaha

I just realized it IS exactly four months away, my travel dates are Aug 19-22 wow it just seems so soon.

quite-the-alarmist: I hope I never get lost! I would probably just start crying and see if anyone would help me haha. The only place I really I hope I don't get lost in is the airport because I would have to pay for another ticket and that would just be really scary!

Lol I’d probably start crying too! That would suck sooo much to get lost in the airport or to miss a flight. Such a nightmare.

On a weird note: I haven’t met anyone from the US going to French-speaking Belgium with AFS…. they’re all from other countries or going with other programs. I can’t be the only one!

schrijvertje: Hey, I was just searching for other Belgians on Tumblr when I found your blog. I wish you the best of luck when you come over here! I'm surprised to find someone so excited about my little country :) I'm from the Flemish region myself, though.

Thanks! I am extremely excited to live in your country, it’s not every day people get an experience like this!

quite-the-alarmist: That would be so amazing! It would be great to live in a place where it snows!! The weather in Belgium actually sounds nice. I'm more of a winter/spring person :p I can't stand the heat!

Ahh I know wouldn’t it be?! I’m more of a spring/fall person, I lovee anything mild. At  least it’s guaranteed to never be 100 degrees! I hate when it rains and it’s windy at the same time though so hopefully that part is relatively mild.

I had a dream the other night that I took the wrong train and wound up in a completely different city than I was supposed to and couldn’t speak French that well…. hopefully I’ll have a cell phone for emergencies before that happens. Hopefully it never will happen haha

quite-the-alarmist: It's been raining where I live for three days straight now! We've had really bad storms and tornado warnings (which is really strange, since I live in the valley) A tornado actually started to form in a city not to far away! I love the rain and thunder storms but tornados are pretty scary haha I hope Belgium doesn't have too crazy of weather!

I know! And hail too which is just crazy. From what I’ve read it mostly just mists there every day but hopefully it’s not tooooo bad. I love snow so maybe (if I’m lucky) I’ll be living in a place where I can experience a white Christmas!

quite-the-alarmist: Hahah I always get excited when I get emails too! But they never give me any info about my exchange, they're reminders or some more paper work :p

I barely do either, it’s mostly stuff I already know and things that invite me to research the culture of Belgium, as if I haven’t been doing that with all of me free (and not so free) time! It’s been raining like crazyy where I live and it reminds me of Belgium and how unprepared I am for constant rain lol
